Kandy Esala Perahera is held to honor the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, a highly revered Buddhist tradition in Sri Lanka. It is one of the country’s most spectacular cultural festivals, held annually in Kandy. The event features a vibrant procession with traditional dancers, drummers, fire performers, and beautifully decorated elephants. The festival also includes religious rituals, temple ceremonies, and colorful parades that showcase the rich heritage of Sri Lankan culture.

The tour begins by moving to Sri Lanka’s central province, with two nights dedicated to photographing the Kandy Esala Perahera festival, featuring vibrant performances, decorated elephants, dancers, and drummers. Next, the tour moves to the North central province for photography of wild elephants, climbing the historic Sigiriya rock, and visiting the impressive Dambulla Cave Temple. A sunrise photo session is arranged with monks walking among the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa, capturing serene cultural moments. Then the tour continues to Uva province, including a photo session with the Vedda indigenous community and colorful tea pluckers at sunrise. Finally, the tour moves to Sri Lanka’s Southern province for a two day stilt fisherman photo session at sunset and relaxing beach time on warm sand.

Saman Weeratunga is a travel photographer and videographer based in Kandy, the heart of Sri Lanka. He has a strong passion for photography and videography. His creative journeys have taken him across amazing countries such as Switzerland, Austria, France, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Kenya, the Czech Republic, Singapore, and Malaysia. These experiences have given him valuable international knowledge and creative insight. He has excellent knowledge of the people of Sri Lanka and understands the right timing and locations for people photography. Saman will guide you while traveling around Sri Lanka to capture stunning photos and videos of local people and their daily lives. If you are a beginner photographer, he will help you learn basic camera settings and controls. He also teaches lighting techniques, composition, and creative approaches, ensuring a rewarding learning experience while traveling, enhancing photography skills.

We arrange private photo sessions with the Vedda indigenous people, stilt fishermen, tea pluckers, monks walking in ruins, traditional dancers, and rural villagers.
